A bit about Barefoot Doula

My journey, I'm sure, resonates with many of my generation. I spent a long time not knowing exactly what I was supposed to do on this earth. One night, sitting in ceremony, I heard my calling to birthwork.

I don't have an intellectual understanding of why, or how I knew this to be my true calling in life, all I can tell you is that it was so loud and clear, that i never even thought to question or doubt that this was my path.

Without deliberation, I enrolled with Doula Canada and answered the call.

A few months later, whilst 7 months pregnant, and certifying to become a doula, I supported my first 28 births in a rural village, in Tanzania. This experience solidified my belief and resolve in following my passion to serve women and families.

I continue to live an unconventional lifestyle, backpacking with my partner and two small boys, four months a year. While barefooting the globe, I volunteer as a doula where I can, and spend the other eight months serving my own community in the beautiful Okanagan.

In this way I stay invigorated and energized with all my clients, as well as exposed to a variety of birth cultures and practices abroad.

My personal journey, which includes four AMA (advanced maternal age) pregnancies, has been bumpy and enlightening. In between my two sons, I had two late and traumatic losses, followed by some serious postpartum mood concerns. I know now that these were all part of my education, as I believe it to be impossible to empathize with others' losses and the postpartum that come therewith, without personal experience.

I feel an intense satisfaction and fulfillment from educating families and  clients who seek knowledge and truth. I aim to reduce the pressure you may experience facing our medical system, by empowering you to make informed choices for yourself.
